Release time:2020-11-21

According to the Economic and Information Commission of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the 2016/2017 sugar production season achieved the highest level in the region's 61-year history, laying a solid foundation for achieving the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" development goals for the sugar industry. A total of 950,000 mu of sugar beet was planted this season, an increase of 270,000 mu compared to the previous year; 3.01 million tons of sugar beet were purchased, and 463,300 tons of sugar were produced, representing increases of 887,400 tons and 70,500 tons respectively compared to the previous year. The average sugar content of sugar beet slices was 14.64%, and the sugar yield was 11.67%, down 1.44 and 1.70 percentage points respectively year-on-year. In the 2016/2017 sugar production season, the national sugar crop planting area was 20.937 million mu, a decrease of 412,000 mu compared to the previous year; the national sugar production was 9.288 million tons, an increase of 586,000 tons compared to the previous year, of which sugarcane sugar accounted for 88.73% and sugar beet sugar accounted for 11.27%. All sugar produced in Inner Mongolia is from sugar beet, accounting for 44.25% of the national total of sugar beet sugar. In the 2016/2017 sugar production season, Inner Mongolia's sugar sales revenue reached 2.994 billion yuan (national sugar industry sales revenue was 65.82 billion yuan), total profit was 225 million yuan (national sugar industry profit was 3.2 billion yuan), and fiscal tax revenue was 198 million yuan (national sugar industry fiscal tax revenue was 3.43 billion yuan). According to statistics from the Autonomous Region Sugar Industry Association, there are currently 6 sugar factories in the region with a production capacity of 20,000 tons/day. It is planned to resume production, expand, and build 7 new sugar factories next year, increasing production capacity to 55,000 tons/day by 2018/2019. Experts suggest that relevant departments should pay attention to expanding sugar beet planting areas, strengthening mechanized harvesting and cutting levels, and improving enterprise storage capacity; localities should plan sugar factories scientifically, reasonably, and in a way that suits local conditions to prevent vicious competition within the region; provide corresponding policy support for the sugar industry, referring to the subsidy policies for crops such as corn, wheat, and potatoes, providing financial subsidies to sugar beet growers and their harvesting machinery to reduce the burden on farmers; and increase efforts in technological transformation, energy conservation and environmental protection, informationization, and intelligent upgrading of sugar factories to improve quality and efficiency, reduce costs and increase income, improve the profitability and market competitiveness of sugar enterprises, and promote the transformation and upgrading of the sugar industry in the region, achieving sustained, healthy, and orderly development of the entire industry.
